Polipo and Pinguino
The First Stop - Venice
Venice: Serene, Decadent and Still Kicking
In Venice, our intrepid explores began their journey. Polipo and Penguino arrived by water taxi and were awed by the Grand Canal. After finding their (adorable) hotel and checking in, they were able to explore one of the worlds greatest treasures: the stately serenity of Venice. They wound through back alleys and marveled at piazzas and stumbled, almost by accident, into St. Mark's square.
Even rainy weather could not dampen the spirits of our travelers. Seeing San Marco almost deserted was a sight none of us will soon forget.
We wandered on our "time off" from the tour and were delighted every turn
Getting lost in Venice was half the fun!
The walking tours of Venice lead by expert and passionate guides was enjoyed by all. So much history and so many stories shared! Polipo loved the Dodge's Palace and the Rialto while Pinguino marveled at the art that seemed to be everywhere. Experiencing a rare viewing of
Da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man" was so exciting!
Capping the trip with an gondola ride complete with live music was like living in a Rick Steves episode.
Venice and its lagoon:
Beyond the beauty and excess of old Venice, Polipo and Pinguino explored Murano and it's breathtaking legacy of glass-blowing. They toured the Glass Museum and even got to see a live demonstration of time-honored technique.
In Burano, the explorers saw lace made by hand and enjoyed all the colorful houses. Enjoy a rare behind-the-scenes look at Polipo and Pinguino's personal paparazzo - fame can be so challenging!
Sometimes, getting the shot means scraped knees and confusing the locals!
Sometimes, getting the shot takes dedication- and scraped knees!
